Troy’s COVID Relief Plan
2nd Congressional district’s plan to provide COVID-19 relief
The 2nd Congressional District deserves an urgent and robust response to delivering vaccines and economic relief to individuals, families, first responders, businesses, schools, and public health systems. Those who are most vulnerable, those who have been hit the hardest, and those on the frontlines deserve immediate relief. Covid-19 has ravaged the economy and the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress have not provided the relief people need.
In Congress I will fight to get relief to those in economic distress. I commit to the work being guided by science, data and approaching the work with a racial equity lens to address the racial disparities of who is being impacted by COVID-19 and removing barriers to access relief for Black and Brown people including:
- $2,000 relief checks to everyone making less than $75,000 per year, including giving people the opportunity to utilize their 2020 income to be eligible. Too many people have not gotten the necessary relief because payments have been based upon 2019 income before their economic losses occurred.
- Continuing enhanced unemployment of at least $400 per week, including automatic triggers that will bring it back anytime unemployment rises above a state’s unemployment rate in December of 2019.
- Providing more forgivable loans through the Paycheck Protection Program and replacing SBA loans with grants so that our businesses are not crippled in their pandemic recovery as businesses were after Hurricane Katrina.
- Ensuring equitable access to vaccinations for our entire community.
- Funding to safely open our schools so that a generation of our students are not left behind.
- Rental and mortgage assistance so that renters, homeowners, and landlords are not left out.
- Require PPE and hazard pay for frontline workers who have kept our cities functioning with the most essential needs.
- Funding for the immediate needs and safety for unhoused residents during the pandemic.
